Homebrew Channel:

The most common hackers app. Everyone needs the Homebrew Channel! It allows you to run files on your SD card/Flash Drive that the Wii menu won’t recognize. (Or at least pretend not to recognize.) The Homebrew Channel (or HBC, as we like to call it) is needed to run all your apps. It is also needed to install wads for you Wii. (This is because you must use WAD Manager to install a wad, which can only be run through the HBC.) Bottom line, Every Wii hacker NEEDS the HBC!

Download/Install Info:

The Homebrew Channel is installed through the Hackmii Package. The latest version of the Hackmii Package can also install DVDX, and  Bootmii. The way you install it is determined by your Wii’s version. (You can check your Wii’s version in “Wii Settings”.  The Wii’s version should be in the upright corner.) If you are 3.1 - 3.5, then you can run Hackmii from Data Management/SD Card. If you are 4.0 - 4.2, run it from the SD Card menu.

WARNING: DO NOT UPGRADE TO 4.3! 4.3 is designed to remove the Homebrew Channel! Nintendo doesn’t want us to use it. (This is because the HBC can also run ILLEGAL apps.)  If you are 4.3, there is still hope. you have to install some IOS’s with Multi_Mod_Manager. It’s a very complicated installation. I’ll explain it a little later. Let’s move on.

USB Loader GX: My favorite app. This allows you to play Wii Games (ISO) from your External Hard Drive! And It has a pretty cool menu too. It can also install a Wii game onto your hard drive. Just insert your disc, and back it up to your hard drive! This is a great app! It can even download disc/case covers, and display them onscreen!

NOTE: DOWNLOADED GAMES WILL WORK TOO. KEEP IN MIND, DOWNLOADING VIDEO GAMES YOU DO NOT OWN, IS ILLEGAL. IT IS CERTAINLY NOT ENCOURAGED! BUT IT IS RECOMMENDED.

This link should work for all Wii versions.  You can use it as an app through HBC, or install it as a wad through WAD Manager. Currently, only the app is available.

Wad Manager: An app to install/uninstall wads. It can also be used to install Wiiware. Very important. No other app like it.

How to Fix 4.3: Go to this link for a tutorial. Just read through it, and don’t download their folder. Just get Multi_Mod_Manager here (you’ll need the boot.elf file too), and put it in the root of your SD card, Put these wads in your SD cards “wad” folder, and put these ones in the root of your SD card. Then Run the Indiana Pwns Hack. Loadmii should start. Click “Multi_Mod_Manager.dol”, then click “WAD Manager”, then install all wads. (press 1 to install all wads.) Now you can put the hackmii folder in your apps folder on the SD card. You can use the hackmii installer on 4.3, only through loadmii. After you’ve installed homebrew, use Priiloader to enable some “System Menu Hacks” to prevent 4.3 from removing the HBC when you reset your Wii. (The tutorial will tell you which hacks to enable). The IOS’s you have installed will install loadmii onto your Wii menu (in case you need it in the future), and it will also patch your firmware to run the HBC and other apps/wads again. Either way, they are NEEDED. So I hope this helps. If you have just finished this, then you’ll probably think: “That was a lot of work!”. And my reply would be: WELL YOU SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THAT BEFORE YOU STUPIDLY UPDATED TO 4.3!

Announcement: Come to my Supplemental Instructions sessions! We have a lot of fun and it’s guaranteed study time. In Spring 2009 the avg. GPA of SI attendees in BSC1005 was 2.87. For non-SI attendees, it was 2.05. That’s almost a B vs. a C. SI students do better on exams and remember course concepts for the rest of their lives.

If you’re a good student and you like public speaking, come to my SI’s and you can lecture for a few minutes. I want to be the Johnny Carson of SI, not the Jay Leno of SI.
