Mushrooms are actually closer to animals than plants, because they decompose organic matter for energy just like we do. The difference is they do it outside their bodies. The real action happens underground; the actual mushroom is just for decoration.

Today I released Tweet This 1.7, the first update to my WordPress plugin in nearly a year. This version adds OAuth support, and it is an important upgrade because Twitter will be disabling basic authentication tomorrow, Aug. 31, 2010. I’ve also added support for the Bit.ly API and fixed many bugs, including problems with automatic tweeting.

Tweet This 1.7 is also available on the WordPress plugin repository and it has been downloaded 100 times since I released it an hour ago. Twitter requires each user of Tweet This to fill out a lengthy and complex application registration form and then copy and paste four API keys to the Tweet This settings, all of which long and confusing, like “5151540-ADGJeaa-dgaiojt-3ugeaei-ghq75gj-dwerty.” Even Alex King, creator of Twitter Tools, has complained about it. Unfortunately, it’s my only option, so I’ve included detailed instructions on the Tweet This options page.

Please leave me feedback and bug reports, as I will be actively developing Tweet This over the coming months.

What is MSG and why it is used.

Without monosodium glutamate (MSG, the modern food industry is not what it is today. Discovered in Japan in 1908 and nicknamed UNAMI, or the fifth taste, reacts with the sensory cells of the tongue, and is best described as savory or meaty taste. Thus, when added to food, our brains are tricked into thinking that what we are eating is warm and rich in protein. It can encourage us to eat products that otherwise sweet taste or even bad.’s more is that leads us to consume foods are just empty calories without nutritional value, all for the good shelf-life and poor quality ingredients! Plus, MSG is cheap to produce and easy to hide. It can be made from common foods such as corn or soybeans, and then be given different names as hydrolyzed vegetable protein, hydrolyzed soy or extracted.

Widespread use of the U.S. food supply has started in late 1940 as a “flavor enhancer”, and although the scientific study from 1960 showed that MSG is linked to excessive nerves, brain, liver damage, and ‘obesity, among other things, it is still in widespread use. This is because the FDA considers a “generally recognized as safe ingredients, like salt, vinegar, or yeast and because it requires only that the ingredients listed by their common names. So manufacturers have created more than one way to add MSG products. For example, when based on common foods such as corn or soybeans, which is then given a common name, such as hydrolyzed vegetable protein, hydrolyzed soy or extracted.

It ‘also be sprayed on crops in the form of Auxigro, a plant “growth enhancer”, approved by EPA in 1997.

The Chemistry of monosodium glutamate (MSG) and soon as it is hidden:

MSG is a salt free amino acids: glutamate, an amino acid plus a sodium atom attached. Amino acids are not only the building blocks of proteins, but also serve other functions in the body, such as chemical signaling of nerve function. Glutamate is one of them, in the sense that acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain, muscles, kidneys and liver. It ’s also a non-essential amino acid, meaning that the body produces itself and does not need to acquire food, as in essential amino acids. Because of this, glutamate is found naturally in many common things we eat, such as tomatoes, peas, corn, milk and especially in meat and cheese. However, it is important to note that the naturally occurring glutamate is “bound” in most foods, while the MSG added to foods and is in the form of “free.

But MSG is also created within the products we eat, how producers can be combined with various additives known natural proteins or plant products and / or process the food through fermentation, autolysis, hydrolysis, or enzymolysis for free. So no need to list MSG on the label, because today is “naturally” present and not an ingredient.

Here is a list of commonly used additives in foodstuffs:
* Yeast Autolyzed
* Yeast extract
* Hydrolyzed Soy Protein
* Hydrolyzed vegetable protein
* Hydrolyzed vegetable protein
* Hydrolyzed Protein
* Protein (TVP)
Protein Hydrolysates *
* Hydrolyzed oat flour
* Sodium caseinate
* Calcium Caseinate
* Enzymes
* Glutamic acid
* Gelatin

Other ingredients that may contain MSG:
spices *
* Natural flavors and artificial
* Ingots / Action
* Beef or chicken flavoring natural

common products that contain MSG or additives described above:
* Canned soups and soups
* Dehydrated soups
* Gravy and sauce mixes
* Frozen
* Frozen vegetarian dishes
* Tofu
* Meat packed in factory
* Tea instant mixes

Several studies show that MSG is harmful to health and our waistlines.

As mentioned, the scientists studied the effects of monosodium glutamate from 1960,
and numerous studies have found to be toxic. Take for example a statement by the U.S. Department of Health, wrote in 1995 when the safety of MSG has finally been re-evaluated by the FDA.

“Studies have shown that the body uses glutamate, an amino acid, as a nerve impulse transmitter in the brain and that there are glutamate-responsive tissues in other parts of the body as well. Abnormal function of glutamate receptors has been linked with some neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s disease. injections of glutamate in laboratory animals have caused damage to nerve cells in the brain. ”

So, in part, the work done by scientists for over 35 years and the complaints and anecdotal evidence of consumers has been approved, but at the same time, and the same document briefly and repeatedly rejected.

“1995 Report of the Federation of American Society for Experimental Biology (FASEB), an independent body of scientists, helps put these safety concerns into perspective and reaffirms the FDA’s belief that MSG and related substances are safe food ingredients for most most people when eaten at customary levels.

“Consumption of glutamate in foods, however, does not cause this effect.

Yet, they do officially to identify two groups of people may react to MSG: asthmatics and those who are simply intolerant to MSG When consumed in large quantities “Both may suffer as MSG Symptom Complex.

Cited by key findings of the report:
* An unknown proportion of the population may react to MSG and develop MSG symptom complex, a condition characterized by one or more of the following symptoms:
* Burning sensation in the back of the neck, forearms and chest
* Numbness in the back of the neck, radiating to the arms and back
* Tingling, warmth and weakness in the face, temples, upper back, neck and arms
* The pressure of the face or sealing
* Chest pain
* Headache
* Nausea
* Rapid heartbeat
* Bronchospasm (difficulty breathing) in MSG-intolerant people with asthma
* Sleepiness
* Weakness

In otherwise healthy MSG-intolerant people, the MSG symptom complex tends to occur within one hour after eating 3 grams or more of MSG on an empty stomach or without other food. A typical portion of food treated with MSG contains less than 0.5 grams of MSG. A reaction is more likely if the MSG is eaten in large quantities or in a liquid, like a stock.

Severe, poorly controlled asthma may be a predisposing medical condition for MSG symptom complex.

Of course once again reiterate that no evidence suggests that glutamate or MSG is linked to Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, ALS, dementia, brain injury, damage to nerve cells in humans, or any other long-term chronic diseases.

Fortunately, although the FDA and DHHS may consider this case closed, the scientific community is still questioning the safety of MSG. The results of recent studies, still raise questions, still link MSG to neurological damage, and now have found associations between this additive and the obesity epidemic. A summary of the latest data on obesity follows with links to current studies, can then be cross-references:
* Published in the Official obesity in 2008, a study of 752 healthy adults aged 40-59 than the BMI of those who used MSG and who’s not. Those who used MSG consumed on average 0.33 g / day. Remember, as mentioned previously, the FDA says a “typical service glutamate treated food contains less than 0.5 grams of MSG.” The study found that regardless of other factors including physical activity and total calorie intake, MSG users had significantly higher BMI.

* An earlier study, published in Nutrition Journal in 2005, compared with rats given a standard diet supplemented with MSG, standard diet, fiber-enriched diet and a diet enriched with fiber MSG. The standard diet with overa group of MSG, and had symptoms of metabolic dysfunction that included changes in blood glucose levels and insulin.

* In 2008, the Journal of Autoimmunity, scientists studying mice given MSG concluded that it not only causes obesity and diabetes, but also causes severe liver damage. The type of damage is characteristic of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in humans.

* In order to better study the growing obesity epidemic, scientists have decided to create a better mouse. Thus, in 2006, they injected mice with MSG because of the damage that does to the hypothalamus (essential for the control of metabolic activity), and invented ICR-MSG, an obese diabetic and race.

This is just a tiny sample of what scientists have worked on, but it is enough to raise concern. Which brings us to the big question …

How can we avoid MSG?

First you must recognize that the government and producers do not look after our best interests. Do not just assume that a product is all natural if you say so on the label. Read the ingredients for additives listed above, and be picky. If there’s anything in there and you have no idea what it actually is because you eat that product? Who has a jar of hydrolyzed soy protein in their pantry? The grandmother did not use this stuff. Also, call the shop and see if they cut and package their own meat. Finally, cook more meals at home when you can. This is the surest way to know that food is healthy.

Hope you found this information useful, comments are always welcome! Thanks for reading!

I will let you in on something shocking. Cholesterol is the major culprit in heart disease. I know this may be hard to believe after all we heard about the dangers of high cholesterol from our doctors and the media. But the truth is, it’s not the cholesterol levels themselves or the cholesterol which foods are the culprits in heart disease, it is the food and any other thing that causes inflammation in your body which is the major cause of heart disease (as well as such as diabetes and high blood pressure).

What is cholesterol and why do we need it?

Cholesterol is a soft, waxy substance that is among the lipids (fats) in the bloodstream and in all your body’s cells. This is an important part of a healthy body because it is used to form cell membranes. Cholesterol also helps in the production of bile (which helps digest fats), and is also important for the metabolism of fat soluble vitamins, including vitamins A, D, E and K. This is the major precursor for the synthesis of vitamin D and various steroid hormones (including cortisol and aldosterone in the adrenal glands and the sex hormones progesterone, the various estrogens, testosterone, and derivatives).

How can something so good so bad?

Cholesterol is wrongly accused for the inspection of the arteries of a person at risk for a heart attack, levels of cholesterol and commemorative plaque build is very high. Cholesterol is actually transported to tissues as part of an inflammatory response that is irreparable harm. This will only lodge itself in the artery and causes the artery commemorative plaque was damaged. Inflammation in the artery that caused the damage. Indeed, it is now known that the coronary disease that causes heart attacks is now considered to be mostly caused chronic inflammation.

To blame for heart attacks cholesterol, the equivalent of the debt security with police in a high crime area to be. It was not the police have caused the crime, there were only placed them in response to the crimes.

A more important question to ask is how do we decrease the amount of inflammation in our bodies that will not bind cholesterol in our veins?

We should all decrease of the things we do that cause inflammation and increase things that reduce inflammation. In the first place we should stay away from foods that cause inflammation in our bodies. Any food that causes a rapid rise in blood insulin levels rapidly inflammation in the body. These foods are sugar, white bread, most dairy products and almost all packaged and processed foods. What does this leave you? Fresh, healthy food like fruits, vegetables, lean animal protein, nuts, and lots and lots of water. Also, in many of omega 3-rich foods will drastically reduce inflammation in the body (salmon, organic eggs, walnuts and sardines).

What about your cholesterol medication?

Some may think, it’s just easier to get a pill to take and not to change what I eat. But you may want to think twice considering the side effects of statins (cholesterol drugs). The most common side effects reported were fatigue, headache, nausea and the most common of them all, severe muscular pains and muscular degeneration. If you remember that cholesterol is essential for the formation of cell membranes, with a drug that dramatically lowers cholesterol can cause damage in a neuronal membrane and muscle. Most people on statins complained of neck, back or leg pain.

Millions of Americans are now on the reduction of cholesterol drugs, but the number of people suffering from heart attacks and heart disease is increasing. Let us take a personal responsibility for our health and truly at the root of the problem. Managing your diet and stay away from those foods that lead to an inflammatory reaction in your body is your first step to reduce your chance of heart disease and heart attacks.

At the beginning of your weight loss and health goals immediately with this simple and effective healthy meal plans.
