Features

Some cool stuff at thripp.com:

• You can have hyphens in your user name, blog name, and blog URI! Even one-letter names are fine, and most of them are still open (register). So you could be something like thripp.com/x. I reserved that one for me, but there are 25 other letters open. Capital letters are also fine in user names (not blog URIs, though). You don’t see any of this elsewhere; I don’t know why other sites restrict you so much.
• When you comment on any blog, if anyone replies to it by clicking “REPLY TO THIS,” it’ll be threaded right below, and you’ll be emailed automatically. No need to keep checking sites!
• You can mirror your posts to LiveJournal, seamlessly and transparently.
• You can make your blog collaborative with an author list; just add the “Add User” widget under Design > Widgets. Then any thripp.com member can post to your blog, but he can’t edit other stuff and you can edit his posts.
• For every post you make, a printable version with footnoted links is dynamically generated and linked to at the bottom. See an example.
• See that log-in box on the sidebar? It turns into your space when you’re here. Your username, a link to your blogging area, and a link to log out appears on every thripp.com page and blog when you’re signed in.
• Everyone can see your progress in your sidebar: how many posts and pages you’ve created, and the number of comments you’ve received.
• You can use thripp.com for family blogs; read about the privacy controls. You can make it so no one but people you pick can read or comment (Settings > Privacy in admin menu).
• Automatic and mandatory spam protection by Akismet, which works quite well. You can read your spam under Comments > Akismet Spam, if you’re so inclined. If there’s a mistake, unspam it right there.
I’m on the thripp.com network (though with privileges), so it must be good.
Tag Autocompletion — as you catalog your posts, suggestions pop up right below based on the tags you’ve previously used. No need to remember everything!
• Helpful ads on every page!
Crazy smilies I made; you can use these when commenting, just by clicking on them.
Awesome permalinks; no one else does them like this (no dates, just a unique number at the end). But you can change them under Settings > Permalinks too.
• Plus, most of the features you see on wordpress.com, because thripp.com has the same underlying software. So you can post music, photos, have photo galleries, moderate your comments, create a multi-user blog with controllable permissions (under Users), create nested categories and pages, export and import posts, disable comments… pretty much anything you want to do.
An integrated community forum where you can talk about photography, computers, thripp.com, or life.
• There are no themes. You get the thripp.com theme like you see on this blog, and that’s it. In that way, there’s a consistent look between the blogs, and you won’t go to one and be stranded because there are important links in the header (back home) and the bottom of the sidebar (recent posts, forum). When you have lots of options, it’s hard to choose anyway. Here, you don’t have to choose.
