Here, I talk about the coronavirus COVID-19 crisis, how it is affecting Americans including retail, foodservice, and healthcare workers, the financial markets, the climate crisis, and the lack of COVID-19 testing.
My name is Richard Thripp and I’m a progressive Democrat running for Congress in Florida’s 6th district (Daytona Beach area).
Here’s a video with my son introducing myself and my campaign to flip #FL06 blue in 2020. Florida’s 6th Congressional district includes Daytona Beach, Deltona, New Smyrna Beach, Palm Coast, and part of Eustis. We can do it!
Campaign Video by Richard Thripp for Congress #FL06, January 31, 2020
Hi, my name is Richard Thripp. This is my son, Ricky. I’m a teacher educator at University of Central Florida teaching technology and I studied financial literacy among future teachers. I’m running for Congress in Florida’s 6th district as a progressive Democrat. I think we need a change in government. What we’re seeing now is unbelievable. We have basically seen every promise that Trump has allegedly made be torn down again and again. Now, they’re actually coming for your Social Security and your Medicare benefits, even though you spent your whole life paying into them, as many seniors have in the 6th district. This district has an incumbent Republican who is not a good guy at all. He comes out and he says things that are just unbelievable, [but] it’s [a district] we can WIN. I think we’re going to see that all over the country—what you saw in 2018 [blue wave in the U.S. House]—we’re going to make it even bigger this time, and we’re going to restore the government to what it should be: Working for the people, instead of the special interests and the wealthy corporations that are receiving the largest tax giveaways in modern history. Thank you, and please pitch in if you can, and as we get closer to the primary and general election, we’ll be building a movement with volunteers and possibly even staff. Thank you.
Here’s a better video by my wife, Kristy Thripp, which you should definitely watch!
Campaign Video by Kristy Thripp for Richard Thripp for Congress #FL06, January 31, 2020
Hi, my name is Kristy Thripp. This is my beautiful son Ricky, named after his father Richard Thripp. His father’s running for Congress in Florida’s 6th district. His primary focus is going to be the climate crisis so we can protect the world for our sweet beautiful baby boy and other children like him. Thank you. Vote for Richard Thripp.
Call to Action:
I am a clear and present danger to the GOP and the establishment. They don’t know what to do about a young Ph.D. graduate / teacher educator who demonstrates broad-spectrum competence in this many areas toward demolishing their propaganda and clobbering them with facts and rhetoric. I need your help to get my message out. Please donate or contact me to volunteer today.
I will not forget the people of Hastings, Crescent Beach, Marineland, unincorporated St. Johns, Flagler, Volusia, and Lake counties in #FL06, Seville, Pierson, DeLeon Springs, Bunnell, Ormond Beach, Edgewater, Oak Hill, Lake Helen, Osteen, DeBary, Holly Hill, DBS, NSB, & beyond.
Port Orange, Orange City, Ponce Inlet, mid-town Daytona Beach will get a DISTRICT OFFICE (NOT a “mobile” office for 2 hours once a quarter), Bethune Beach, Gobblers Lodge, Bethune Beach, Lake Helen, SPOOKY Cassadaga, Barberville, Ormond-by-the-Sea, Flagler Beach, Bimini, & more.
I will FIGHT for federal protections for our migrant fruit pickers and farm workers, for those living in the projects in Daytona Beach, girls and women being abused, trafficked, or worse, for our birds, waters, air, and sea, for Medicaid expansion, seniors, veterans, & beyond.
And our wonderful county capitals included within #FL06 Florida’s 6th Congressional district, DeLand (Volusia) and Bunnell (Flagler) will get the representation they deserve, and the students, faculty, and staff of Daytona State College, Bethune–Cookman University, Stetson University, Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University, Palmer College of Chiropractic, Florida Technical College, University of Central Florida at Daytona Beach, Florida State College of Medicine at DSC, WyoTech, Keiser University, Northwest Lineman College, our K–12 schools, hospitals, & more.
The district #FL06 had to be reconfigured due to a court case over gerrymandering between the 2010 Census and now, and in the 2022 elections the lines will all be re-drawn (with more GOP gerrymandering) based on the 2020 Census.
My opponent Michael Waltz, a shill for Lyin’ Donald Trump, is RUNNING SCARED putting out videos visiting food banks to try to reform his out-of-touch, bought-and-paid-for image. Let’s VOTE HIM OUT so he can get back to making $$$$$ at Metis and Askari running guns in Libya! #FL06
SWARM Michael Waltz’s district offices and rare mobile office visits with questions on Obamacare and the Affordable Care Act. I BET they say “Oh, we don’t help with that.” STOP SLASHING the ACA navigators and educational budget! 25% of Americans think Obamacare is dead. NOT SO!
Here is my candidate introduction speech at the 2nd annual Mary McLeod Bethune gala at The Center at Deltona on January 17, 2020, at which Congresswoman Val Demings (D, FL-10) and Representative Anna V. Eskamani (D, FL HD 47) also spoke! I am running as a Democrat for Florida’s 6th district which includes Volusia and Flagler counties as well as parts of St. Johns and Lake counties (Daytona Beach, Deltona, Palm Coast, Bunnell, New Smryna Beach, Edgewater, etc.).
Good evening everyone. My name is Richard Thripp, and I’m running for the Democratic nomination for United States House of Representatives in the 6th district [of Florida]. Hopefully we’ll give Michael Waltz real competition. He had a great competitor last time and we know it’s a difficult district, but remember that we’ve got to get young people involved in politics. We have to raise important issues. And, most importantly, the climate crisis. Our children and grandchildren will look back on us, and they’ll say either that we made a change—it looks very late at this time, but there’s still time to make a change—or that we let the world go down in flames.
I’m a teacher educator at the University of Central Florida, and I have just completed my Ph.D. in Education last month. I’m 28 years old, and my wife Kristy’s in the audience, and we have a 10-month-old baby boy at home. He’s got 4 teeth coming in all at once, so he’s really unhappy right now. Anyway, you’ll be seeing a lot—I don’t know if you’ve seen me online, but people have—but I’m coming out to clubs, and I’m coming out to caucuses and events.
As you know, just yesterday or the day before, Virginia passed the Equal Rights Amendment. It’s very historic. This amendment has been basically dormant since 1978. And tomorrow, we’ll be marching in Flagler Beach for women’s rights, and also, Ambassador Nancy Soderberg will be speaking there too. I know you’ve got the [Dr. Martin Luther King] breakfast here. We’ve got lots of stuff going on. But, I look forward to that, I look forward to campaigning, and to raising important issues for this district, for Florida, for the entire country, and for the planet.
Thanks to my wife Kristy for recording this video.
The 6th district has Michael Waltz as an incumbent. We know last time Nancy Soderberg ran but there’s really nobody running this time. I’m running. I just graduated from UCF. I’m a teacher educator. I just finished my Ph.D. in Education last month. Here’s my wife Kristy and my son Ricky. I’m not politically active in the past, but as I was working at UCF I studied what future teachers know about personal finance and it’s not a whole lot.
Right now, we’re having this Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. It’s the greatest robbery in the history of our country. The corporations are just robbing us blind. I’m probably the only candidate who is running with one of my items being to expand the IRS, because if you look, they have fewer and fewer people; they’ve got more and more to do. If they go after someone wealthy or a corporation, they can’t do anything. The wealthy corporations have armies of attorneys and advanced auditors, and the IRS just doesn’t have the manpower, so they end up spending their time going after low income people, minorities, who claim the Earned Income Tax Credit in a way that may or may not be appropriate. This is not where they should focus.
Also, to me the climate crisis is very important. I don’t know if you remember, but a few months ago we had a Category 5 hurricane [Hurricane Dorian] sitting right off the coast of Florida and we were very lucky, and I know the people of the Bahamas were very unfortunate. But, that’s going to happen again, and there will be people who think we can never get hit by a hurricane who are going to get hit. Look what happened in the panhandle [Hurricane Michael]. The building codes there weren’t even designed for that sort of disaster. And so it’s getting worse and worse and worse, and all you’re seeing from Republicans and the Labor Party in Australia: NOTHING. They’re in bed with the coal companies; they’re in bed with everyone who is profiting and not paying for the damage they’re causing. You wouldn’t have someone just come, let’s say, everyone just come to your yard and dump all the garbage they want for free. How’s that going to work for my son? How’s that going to work for disadvantaged people? It’s not.
So please come out and vote on August 18th or early voting, and November 3rd or early voting, and I’ll also be supporting whoever our nominee is for President of the United States. Florida is CRITICAL. Florida is it. You wouldn’t have Trump putting his campaign kick-off event here. He just had his “homecoming” party because he is now domiciled in Florida instead of New York. If he loses Florida, he loses the election. Thank you.
